One of the most difficult things I find about growing older is working through all the physical changes and issues, that seem to pop up randomly out of nowhere. Sure, it starts with simple stuff, like your first grey hairs. But then not long after, you realize you can’t drink alcohol anymore, without bringing on a total system-melting hot flash. And then, before you know it, you’re also eliminating whole food groups because they’ve taken to inciting a riot of recurring inflammation that has you wondering how you ever took eating for granted.

How did we not know about all this nonsense before? I’m GenX. And we have never been clueless – despite what Alicia Silverstone’s 1995 movie intimates. How did we get here? And what are we going to do about it? Because I, for one, am not going down without a fight!

Yes, yes – HRT is definitely helpful. And I’m on it, too. But I have a feeling these issues are only the beginning. Seriously, I have a cupboard full of supplements now, helping me do everything from sleeping to reactivating my DNA! Wtf?

So, this is my new new plan: Make stronger and healthier THE GOAL, using all of the tools in my awareness, to stay independent right up to the very end. Are you with me?

The keystone of my plan is slow-living. And I am certain this is one of the reasons why I haven’t completely fallen apart. I wake up with the sun (usually around 6:30 a.m.) and start my day gently. Leaping out of bed and frantically rushing after pushing the snooze button for the 7th time doesn’t happen anymore.

My connection with Spirit is also really important. Working with my intuition daily and intentionally, helps keep me ground and directed.
