DAY 10/30
An Epiphany
After just 9 days of sharing my truth on Substack I have arrived at an epiphany - for myself, and about the work I really want to do; what I wish to share and how I hope to shift perspectives.
It’s certainly not the first time I’ve had such an awakening. I actually have breakthroughs fairly continuously - as I suspect most thinkers and writers do. And I have also chased many of these ideas down to their very cold unsatisfying ends.
But this is different (she says, again). No, really.
It is because it concerns work I am already doing on a smaller scale, inside the Wild Wisdom Movement - which is teaching women to remember their own magick. To see it in everything they do and to become all they desire to be in this world because of it.
Now, I want to bring a portion of that her, inside of Substack - once per week. Sharing stories about incredible women from Herstory - many of whom have been forgotten or purposely buried. And about the mythological goddesses from various pantheons, from whom we can also learn - the archetypes which remind us of our own virtues and strengths.
And of course, I will also share my own perspective and personal stories as they relate to the themes of each week.
Women are extraordinary! And deserve to not only be recognized but celebrated and emulated. We are not the same creatures as men. We should not be trying to move in the same ways.
I am, personally, surrounded by the most wonderful men. I have given birth to and raised two of the most beautiful young men, and am stepmother to two more amazing beings. But so much of history only speaks of the deeds and bravery of the men who have shaped our world. What of the women?
I studied history - minored in it at university - and there are next to no female heroines featured in any of our textbooks. So, it’s beyond time we unearthed them, wherever we can.
Until fairly recently in our history, societies were more typically matriarchal. In fact, it wasn’t until around the time of Rome’s emergence that the patriarchy even gained dominance. Up until that time – roughly 3000-1500 BCE depending on the region - societies were more predisposed to being peace-loving, spiritual and egalitarian. Which of course is also how they eventually fell so easily to those who were not of the same mind.
It also provides us with a bit more understanding of what’s happening with us culturally now. Western society has been increasingly leaning into progressivism over the past 70 years or so - and the Old Boys Club doesn’t like it. Equal rights for everyone can’t work for those who see The People as a commodity to be exploited.
Hence, the current conservative push-back. The attempt to use religion, yet again, to rein in the unruly masses. And criminalization of women choosing control over their own bodies over legislation that dictates they relinquish it. They really are not very original.
Anyway, this is the direction I am likely going at the end of these 30 days – and maybe a few days between now and then.
