Ghost Stories
Part 1: Not Your Imagination
When people speak about having an “awakening” in later life, I can’t really relate – because I’ve always been aware that there is so much more to this world than what we can experience through our mundane senses.
From the time I was very young, around three years old, I remember seeing spirits. They just looked and moved like translucent people. And while they were generally friendly, I didn’t know who they were. And when I’d encounter them in my home, usually late at night, and no one else in my family acknowledged their existence, it was very confusing.
I was accused of having a big imagination. Told there was no such thing as ghosts. And the rationale for that particular argument was the “fact” that when we die there is nothing that comes afterwards. You’re dead, buried in the ground and no longer exist. Like that wasn’t the most terrifying thing a child could hear!
Fortunately for me, I’m tenacious. And when I want to understand something, I keep digging until I uncover a truth that makes sense. I also have never taken anyone at their express word for anything, when I believe something different is a possibility. It doesn’t matter who that person might be – in this case, my own mother.
In addition to seeing spirits, I also felt them – which was actually a more difficult thing to experience, because I only really noticed the energetic shifts when they were particularly unwelcoming, or even threatening. There were certain rooms, for instance, at my grandparents’ farmhouse which I was loath to go into on my own. It didn’t matter what time of day it was or how many lights were on, the malevolent energy that clung to these spaces made me intensely fearful and claustrophobic.
One of the rooms was an attic bedroom once occupied by my great-grandmother, but I don’t imagine it was her that I felt there. By all accounts she had been lovely and warm-hearted in life. The other space was a small pantry on the main floor, tucked in behind the kitchen. It was bright and inviting in appearance, with a small window facing the garden. And it was where I’d always be sent to retrieve my favourite pop or ice cream bars – so you know the lure was great. But I never dallied when I was in there; it was a strictly grab and go situation!
I learned a few key things from these early encounters that set the stage for later exploration:
- People don’t know everything – even the really intelligent ones – so you need to rely on your own judgement and guidance.
- Your intuitive gifts are the gateway to discovering so much more about this world.
- Remaining curious and open despite what anyone else tells you is the best way to learn and grow.
So back to this idea of “awakening”. For me, the awareness was directly tied to my intuitive gifts – seeing and feeling led to believing and questioning; knowing there’s more to life through experiencing more and recognizing that as an important clue linked to our incarnation and mortality.
How you may have experienced this threshold moment, may be completely different. While to me it feels as though my perception around identity and purpose has continuously shifted throughout my life, many people don’t really have cause to start questioning what we call “life” until much later on – usually when something particularly inspiring makes them really think about it, or they experience disillusionment around their current religion, or something traumatic triggers them to search for better answers.
Within my Wild Wisdom Movement group, which is focused on the Divine Feminine, I refer to the process of connecting to our cyclical natures as “remembering”. Because I don’t think any of it is actually new to us – rather it’s an innate knowing that society has encouraged us to bury. This is also a Hermetic principle (which we’ll talk more about beyond the paywall).
When you’ve been told so often that what you’ve experienced is just your imagination, that your sensitivity is a “you problem”, you eventually learn to stop talking about it. And even worse, you may start to really question your own worth and sanity.
I’d like to show you a different way. One that begins today with you exploring and learning how to work with your particular intuitive gifts.
This is your invitation to open yourself to something that may be new for you but has truly ancient origins. And if you choose to accompany me on this journey, I will show you a different way of viewing yourself and our modern world through it, as well as how to potentially change everything in your current reality.
If you are magickally inclined, and ready to stop waiting for your life to start – this system exists to hand you the tools to build it now.
And if you’d like to know more about my background as a Hermetic Adept with more than 20 years experience, as well as what we’ll be covering over the next year, read this:
